Information for Child Care Centers
In a child care environment where you have a mix of children who can speak and those who are still learning, sign language provides a common language for everyone.

Your Child Care Center Can Experience:
- A Calmer Environment. There are fewer temper tantrums when children are able to communicate their needs and wants using sign language.
- Reduced Noise Levels . When children learn that sign language is more effective than crying or whining, the noise level decreases.
- Less Aggressive Behavior . Children already use their hands to communicate their wants with other children, but it's usually in an aggressive and forceful manner. Sign language will allow them a better way to express themselves.
- Accelerated Verbal Development. It has been proven that children who are regularly exposed to sign language start to speak earlier than non-signers.
- Increased Self-Esteem. Children will develop a greater feeling of self-confidence as a result of knowing they are "heard" and understood by their caregiver.
- Earlier Opportunity For Social Manners. Children are taught the signs for “please” and “thank you” before learning to speak, and are encouraged to use the signs when asking for or receiving things.
